The flight could cost 40 Euros return ticket all inclusive ( Easyjet in November 2014): a ridiculous price. Not bad for almost 4 hours flight: there and back flight is 5 Euros per hours about. By this price you cannot hire even a bicycle.
The endless big feeds will cost you between 16 and 20 Euros all inclusive, very good fish, really fresh, cooked in a masterly manner, in short…to burst. Then it will be enough go away from the main directions to find easily little typical restaurants, both in Cyprus and in North Cyprus, where prices are even more ridiculous.
The food in Cyprus is really good. At Marconi Village Gold Lemon Restaurant, a few kilometres south Larnaca, I ate the best octopus in my life. It has neither website nor e-mail but look for it, it really deserves!
Very hot in summer and in November during the week we were there they never dropped under 20° by day and often reaching 25°. Sun and wonderful colours were with us. What do you want more since we left the perpetual fog in Alexandria?
Views and colours
Cyprus can be resumed by its colours. As you know, I don’t really love the hot weather and the seafaring life but Cyprus colours will bewitch you as it happened to us.
They are ridiculous. Okay it was out of season, there weren’t many tourists, you could come on an agreement and win through very good prices on the accommodations, lunches and purchases, but the 9% VAT rate for almost all tourist services is a reality in summer and in winter. Then in North Cyprus the prices are even lower.
You can hire a boat for 5 people for half an hour by a total sum of 30 Euros. Coming on an agreement a bit we were away almost an hour by a ridiculous price and Nickolas managed it.
You find him on Papos promenade, he even doesn’t have a website: look for him, he is very kind!
Then…how wonderful navigate in this sea! I must come back certainly, to experience this island by this wonderful sea, clear and transparent.
In Papos the venues follow one another: one more beautiful than the other. A cocktail on the sea or tasting very good fish.
A promenade and thousands shops. All with quick and working Wi-Fi. The place offers the tourists endless choices.
Did you see the photo below? Here it’s easy to sight huge size turtles. Summer is the perfect season and they will swim with you. Snorkelling in this island is a unique experience.
In summer tourism is massive but it is not be able to ruin this destination, yet. You can see it a flash talking to people. They arrive from whole Europe to enjoy this sea but they usually don’t go out the main and well trodden roads: this allow to enjoy the most tourist and famous destinations, as well to discover typical little mountain villages where you can still live as once, above all in the northern part of the island.
A curiosity: if you like a place, never ask the address but fix the Gps coordinates. If you ask someone about the direction, even in a big town and your destination is just a few blocks, you will fall about laughing. Whether you show to them a plan written in their language, you will immediately realize that they cannot read it and even don’t know the address about anything! The roads usually don’t have the nameplates and they don’t use them. Period!
On the seashore, of course, beaches, sun and “dolce far niente” (pleasant idleness). Also this thing is not for me, but here I have to admit that perhaps I would try it…maybe just for a half day.
Resting, relaxing, listening to the sound of the sea and basking in the sun. If it is good at the end of November, who knows in summer!
Did you know in Cyprus free camping is allowed? I don’t really love it, but if it must be camping it has to be real! Obviously in the most tourist part this possibility dirties the environment, we can’t deny it, but maybe late in spring or at the end of summer it offers really many possibilities. Children will enjoy themselves really.
Besides the free camping, sometimes you can have a pick nick on the sea with benches and tables. Simply idyllic, don’t you think?
Certainly the strong point, the most famous and celebrated one. Boundless, very fine sand or pebbly beaches, reef or hidden beaches. Wonderful bays reachable only by sea. You can peek and choose.
Did you know here there are also many lava beaches that Valeria liked very much?
Then the water temperature is enjoyable even in November.
Fruit and vegetables
Cyprus is a luxuriant island. You’ll find all sorts of fruit and vegetables in every season. Maybe it’s not perfect and high treated as the one in our supermarkets, but certainly is fresher and more genuine.
Oranges, lemons, bananas, pomegranates, salad, cucumbers, all sorts of vegetables and so on and so forth. A paradise for every hygienist person and even if we aren’t, we have eaten really much, too.
We already talked about the turtles but they aren’t the only ones populating Cyprus. In your ontheroad you’ll probably stop like that, as we did.
Cyprus is the donkeys habitat, too. They live in large number in the wild above all in North Cyprus. You can meet them along the road, they come close and…enter the car literally!
Even Valeria managed to close to them after thought about that a bit!
But discoveries in Cyprus are not finished, yet. Take a look here.
This is the scenery in front of your eyes a few kilometres far from Larnaca airport, just outside the town and you think that November isn’t the best season to sight them.
A huge salt lake houses endless flamingos.
On its shores you can walk, run, doing sport or simply enjoy these really beautiful animals. Arriving early in the morning is de rigueur: before the road become crowded, the flamingos are closer and allow to admire them in all their majesty!
Art and History
Here we touch on a painful subject that thrust the roots in the history, in a clue impossible to find, as well it’s impossible to get an idea and find the guilty and the innocent. We can only see and admire.
Churches and mosques are in contrast to each other sometimes and other times- a few- they seems to beat one depending on the area and the town where you are. New mosques and churches full of gold or without tips and crosses, and reconverted into mosques. But in a town we found them together and closed. It is of a good omen…
The archaeological centres are really a lot and well preserved (in many places better than in Italy).
Admittance is a few Euros and the lovers will meet their match!
Luxury in Cyprus can be really low cost. We experienced it here in this paradise corner in north Cyprus. It was not easy to reach it and no one knew to tell us the direction but once arrived you will never regret it!
You’ll fall in love with this location very soon, like we did! Take a look at our cottage. Elegant and refined furniture, perfectly working that will make you feel in heaven!
This was our balcony with view of the sea. Wrapped by silence and complete relax. Tick a stop at Lintons Ilgaz Club.
You can also choose one of the many different locations scattering the island, directly on the website www.cyprusluxurydestinations.com . Its name…need I say more?
But continue our journey. Crossing the border between Cyprus and North Cyprus, but I’ll tell you about this in a dedicated post.
They are scattered everywhere and here you deal with locals and the local culture.
Make recommend by them the restaurants for a seafood stop.
As people say, at last but not least, Cyprus is perfect for long or short ontheroad.
Couldn’t I bewitch by it? The motorways are free (but don’t think about our standards) and the links are quite smooth. If you decide to go to the mountain, hire a proper powered car.
Obviously I can’t tell you how the road conditions can be in summer during the peak season. So keep in mind that standards aren’t ours.
You will drive the most beautiful edges of Cyprus and North Cyprus and you will admire the colours that will leave you gaping.
You can stop where you like most for a full day stop or have a quick swim that will regenerate you.
Some of the most beautiful places are reachable only by dirt roads so keep in mind this, too, when you’ll hire the car.
On the contrary other ones are easily reachable and the sand beaches are just in the town centre, as in Larnaca.
Children will run on the sand every single moment of the day. It’s really dangerous to walk on the seafront!
I think to have convinced you to take into account Cyprus as your next short or long holiday destination and whether I was not be able to do it, yet…I give you this last release. I’m sure you’ll change you mind!
