Have you ever tested the segway in Rome? After have explored the town by bicycle some years ago, now we have decided to test this way.
Actually, we have been it in our mind for some time and, with the help of a quick touch and go in the eternal city which have given us a free afternoon, we have decided to test the segway in Rome.
Segway in Rome. How it was?
I would say wonderfully good! The #segway in #Rome is a handy, practical and quick way to move Click To Tweet
You have to know the segway is a handy, practical and quick way to move (in the traffic, too) and now, in Italy, since a proper legislation doesn’t exist, it’s practically a very free way.
But let’s go in order.
We chose SegItEasy for several reasons. Above all, as you know, rent a segway in Rome is not proper cheap, so, since we always search for the low cost, we opted for them after have compared the prices of the main hire places.
The most part of the segways in Rome cannot be hired independently but it’s only possible to take part to organized tours.Hired #lowcost #segway in #Rome with @SegiteasyRome Click To Tweet
Of course, this makes raise the price since you are helped by tourist guides who offer an excellent service, but they have a price.
SegItEasy is one of the few, if not the only one, offering the possibility to rent the segway freely.
The seat is in Rome 47/a, Piazza del Gesù (near Altare della Patria), really very handy.
It’s in the central area: you can arrive there by public means and above all, if you are already visiting Rome, you are certainly already near there.
SegItEasy more than hire point it’s a welcoming point for people passing there with a service as more complete as possible.
For example, besides the segway, it’s possible to plan here other particular experience to visit Rome, from the tuk tuk hiring to the electrical cars.
But how difficult is to drive a segway in Rome?
This is the question everyone ask me and that also I wondered before testing it.
Looking at a person who moves by segway gives the idea of a very unstable equilibrium and if this person is very good and moves safely, we immediately think he/she has a boundless experience.
It’s not like that! Trust me! The segway is one of the most intuitive means I’ve ever tested. The #segway is one of the most intuitive means I've ever tested Click To Tweet
Really it’s enough 5 minutes of explanation, two laps on the opposite square and immediately you become comfortable with the mean. After less than half an hour you move safely through Rome streets and after an hour I felt like a professional acrobat.
It’s really incredible the quickness by which you learn. You get on trying to keep the barycentre in equilibrium and you stop.
Then simply you shift the weight forward to move and as soon you re-shift the weight back, the segway stops in a very short space.
All very safe and very easy
Marlène, the owner, it’s the only woman in Rome to deal with segway.
She explained me all these things with the passion of who knows to have create a different service company. She works with skill to offer to the visitor the excellence of the experience.
There are no tricks, hidden prices, extra half hours in the amount for 2 minutes plus of using.
As it often happens (unfortunately more abroad), the tourist here is not ripped off, but he is given a quality service for which he will agreed to pay the right.
Do you know the SegItEasy also offers the personal accident insurance included in the hiring amount?
Marlène explained me that it was very difficult to offer it to customers.
In Italy the segways are not considered cars, so nobody want to assure them and she, obstinate and determined, had difficulty in finding a company let her assuring her customers.
The segways are not cars, so it means they are considered pedestrians. Practically, by the segway (unlike the bicycle) it’s possible going everywhere you go on foot.
Pedestrian area, pavements, traffic and full of tourist area, by segway are not a problem.
Above all because, as I was saying before, the segway is very handy and it stops in few centimetres; then for its speed varying depending on how you bend forward with your body.#Segway is very handy and it stops in few centimetres! @SegiteasyRome Click To Tweet
Whether I move among the crowd it will be very easy going slow as a pedestrian; whether I move on a desert road and I bend a lot, I am able almost to reach the speed of a bicycle. All without effort.
The segway fits very well also on the dirty road or on the gravel thanks to its very large wheels; so also the bumpy roads of Rome and the uneven sampietrini are not a problem.
The only thing you cannot do by segway are the steps.
The segway has 8 hours autonomy, so you can hire it in the morning and enjoy yourselves around Rome all day freely.
On the contrary, if you prefer the ease and the convenience of a tour with tourist guide, Marlène studied personally a series of “coloured” tours you find directly on the website.
The segway raise us about 15-20 cm from land and already from this point of view, on the normal roads, it is very particular. Starting from this, Marlène put in every tour a point of view from above Rome to admire the town.#segway: the best way to admire #Rome from the top Click To Tweet
The Red Tour offers a panoramic on the ancient Rome and it’s ideal for people who love History and Arts but however don’t disdain sport.
If you love these point of view from high, the Orange Tour with its panoramic views will be the perfect choice for you.
With the Blue Tour we’ll go and admire the most beautiful squares and fountains in Rome, going up as far as Pincio for the panoramic view.
This tour gives a bit of time for free lunch. If you want, it’s possible to have lunch on Tevere.
On the occasion of Jubilee, the Tour of 5 basilicas was born.
One of them can be visited also inside, a thing that usually you cannot do to let more time to the use of segway.
What’s my favourite tour? The Yellow Tour. It takes us to Trastevere, a place I love despite it is a very tourist place.
The stops are in several panoramic points to admire Rome from above and then you go up on Gianicolo with its very steep climbs.
I assure you that doing it by segway is a lot more handy than using bicycle!
You don’t notice climbs and it’s really funny.
The ideal thing is doing this tour at sunset, when Rome become tinged with the most beautiful shades of orange.
Then, of course, are available organized tours depending on any need and obviously tours in English.
With the tours, people search for an equilibrium between fun and culture, trying to make funny the stories of the tour guides between history and legends.#Tour in #segway in #Rome with @SegiteasyRome Click To Tweet
So, the tour are lighter and fit for schools, too.
