Seas meet but don’t mix
Seas meet but don’t mix, an experience to admire and a place not to miss if you pass by hereabouts.
On the map Skagen is simply a little village.
On the contrary, live it is a ravishing destination, for what you can admire and for what it represents.
Beaches to arrive as far as the end
It’s a famous tourist place of the area: sand, beaches and swimming.
Of course, don’t think about our beaches: our concept of sea is a bit different!
To reach the northernmost point you cross the peninsula with the same name, a long and very narrow strip of land.
Lighthouses, dunes and wild life
The road runs slow along the holiday houses, the few hotels and the very numerous camps. We are in October and now they are desert for the most part. As we go on the navigator tells us the strip of land is getting narrower and the sea is really close in both parts by now. We cannot see it from the road due to the very high sand dunes on both sides.
We arrive to a parking where it is impossible to go forward by car. A huge and very beautiful lighthouse is right here in front of us.
We keep going on foot and the road to run is obligatory. You go up to the sand dunes through the path and the landscape in front of us is breathtaking. Over there in the bottom is already possible to sight from far the phenomenon: seas meet but don’t mix!
In the sea there are several tankers and cargo boats: it’s a point of hard passage and of huge importance for the transits and trades.
The very long strip of sand goes on among beaches of very fine sand and a strong wind scourges them. It get narrower over there as far as it disappears, right there where the North Sea and the Baltic Sea meet and then…where seas meet but don’t mix.
The phenomenon is very particular. If I have to tell the truth I didn’t believe this phenomenon completely. I thought the pictures, like it often happens, were made on purpose in a determined period of the year and practically impossible to see.Beaches, lighthouses, wild life and it: the phenomenon of the sea meeting but don’t mixing. #Danimarca Click To Tweet
A phenomenon visible to the naked eye
Instead it isn’t like that. Between the two seas the separation line is clear and well visible. How impressive! It conveys more to the naked eye than in the photos. It’s a line separating two seas of different colour, of a different movement…it seems even they have a different density.
In this last stretch of beach swimming is strictly forbidden and it seems the navigation is a bit complicated, too, due to the strong crossed streams which create.
The walk to reach on foot the northernmost point is very long. It winds among several blockhouses, some sleep into the sea, war ruins and fights of a too recent past.
The warm sun tries with all its strengths to prevail over the incessant wind and warm a bit.
There are curious thousands little lagoons forming with the high and low tides which become a natural habitat for seagulls and sea crows besides for many different species, paradise of the bird watching lovers.
Roberto, as always, gets carried by his “photographic raptus” and takes at least six millions photos (that I will have to cancel!).
You can admire crabs and little crabs and even very particular jellyfishes along the shoreline and children enjoy themselves searching for the most curious little animals.
Explore beaches by many ways
We aren’t the only tourists, despite the season. Here a bit of wind and a bit of cold scare no one. Look at these tourists what way have chosen to admire the phenomenon of the two seas meeting but don’t mixing!
A very beautiful and huge tractor…I’d like to try driving it!…maybe taking off that cart to do some more squeal of tyres!Have you ever been to the beach by tractor? To look at the seas meeting but don’t mixing! #Denmark Click To Tweet
Phew!!! I know, I know you cannot let me try!
While we keep taking endless photos and Valeria keeps running like a mad girl everywhere, in a few seconds water rises and the point where we are and that a few moments ago was dry, now is getting covered by a veil of water.
The wind rises and big black clouds arrive. Here the weather changes rapidly, above all in this season.
Ready to go towards Iceland
We have to go back. Tomorrow we are leaving and the Norrona waits for us. We are going to Iceland after have touched and stayed at the Faroe Islands and have gone along Norway and the Shetland Islands at sunset.
An amazing view is ahead of us, besides the cheapest way by far to reach Iceland.
We still go around these endless beaches by car where it’s possible going by car and enjoy oneself like mad spinning through 180 degrees. It’s an experience to try. Many people do it!
Meanwhile I leave you with a last tip. Don’t miss the desert, 10 km to the south, where it’s possible to admire another particular phenomenon: the moving sand dunes. Actually it’s the point in Europe where this is more evident. You think that even a church was submerged by dunes and today only the bell tower emerges in the highest point. And it’s available for visits!
Enjoy your holiday! I…wait for you in Iceland!
