26th November 2014
Lillyontheroad in Cyprus. This morning the plane leaves very early allowing us to still have most of the day to live at destination.
Destination: Larnaca in Cyprus.
Landing Larnaca. Sun and warm temperature!
Right now we are going to the seafront towards Limassol.
I’m dying for a tour by boat!
In front of Cyprus typical dish: 35 seafood courses to follow at a distance the Air Dolomites event #alsettimocielo (#intheseventhheaven) in Bologna! I’ll follow you at a distance!
For people who love low cost: dinner cost 18.50 Euros each!
Also with the dancing fountains. Valeria, can you try not to bathe, please? …Never mind!
27th November 2014
It’s dawn but we bathed yet.
The coasts are very beautiful and have unique colours.
Also for the people who don’t love sea very much like me!
What do you think?
Limassol is a very beautiful seaside.
In this off-season, too, because there are more than 20-22° C. If you are wondering what you can do here, the list is definitely long!
First of all we stuffed ourselves with exaggerated fish!
Then history and archaeology, in the whole Cyprus you can pick and choose!
Then tour by boat: prices are definitely low cost. Take a look here!
This is definitely a slack time, so you can even come to an agreement about the price…a lot!
I recommend just him, a kind and helpful boy: he charged really a fair 1 hour price for a 3 people boat!
Did you already got that we have chosen the boat, didn’t you?
Just finished the tour, we have some relax on the quay: this venue is directly on the water.
In the same time, we are admiring the promenade and tasting very good cocktails.
But time is always not too much. It’s time to leave again! Outside the towns the first meetings are waiting for us.
Again the views of the sea.
This area is full of very famous lava beaches: very beautiful to see.
And it’s not all. We haven’t enough time to stop that Valeria is soaked yet!
Moving on to the north we reach the border with North Cyprus. We don’t know well what there’s ahead of us because the explanations are definitely disagreeing. We crossed the border in a sec and without problems: I’ll give you all clarification and information about this in a coming post.
Arrived in Girne we have some little trouble finding a place to sleep. This is a very famous Turkish place for its beach and the endless casinos with attached hotel. Just after went inside asking to spend the night, they pushed us away seeing Valeria since the minors cannot sleep there.
Never mind, tonight we’ll live like lords a bit. This is the most expensive place in whole Northern Cyprus and I have to say that…it worth only for a way through not for a stop unless you are keen on the game of chance.
But the venues on the seafront and the restaurants are beautiful, nice and relatively cheap.
In the evening all of them offer live music with typical and very particular instruments.
Then the all lighted bastion, but it’s time to go to bed!
28th November 2014
The dawn awakes us: it’s a beautiful day.
We leave again: direction Nicosia, the capital city.
We have a walk in the town centre in the north part (since we arrived from the high).
Here, too, the borders are guarded by ONU and the town it’s divided in two part inside: the way through can be only on foot.
Markets and streets are very different in the Cypriot part and they have a very Arabian atmosphere.
Valeria doesn’t really love the living silkworm sale!
Here the minarets lord it and the orthodoxies churches are all reconverted into mosques.
We come back to Girne to take still two photos by day.
Very beautiful the harbour atmosphere without all the chaos of the last night.
Are you interested in this sailing vessel perhaps? It’s for sale! But there’s not the price!
Last photos and it’s time to leave Girne to move towards the mountains.
Here the atmosphere is really different. It just seems the tourist go regularly only to the main streets in summer, too. Then if you find some little restaurants…prices are even lower. Really ridiculous!
So we reach our destination for the night. I have to tell a few words more about Lintons Ilgaz Club.
Really a unique place!
The owner, a retired distinguished English gentleman, decided to stay here all the year and he has created a unique atmosphere of elegance and refinement.
A few kilometres out of Girne, which is however reachable quickly, there’s this heaven of peace and calm: I’ll certainly tell you about it in details.
Our cottage has a unique view of sea wrapped in the silence.
Here are the insides. Dream with us!
The dinner isn’t less than them: gourmet dishes in an atmosphere of peace and calm.
A female singer rejoices the evening while we are tasting very good revisited dishes.
Complete the offer the wines from all over the world.
This is our cottage. The most beautiful one thanks to the view of the sea!
29th November 2014
But there’s no time to waste.
Today the journey is long and the time is always not too much.
We arrive at the most beautiful and famous beaches of whole Cyprus. How wonderful!
What does Valeria do, of course?
It’s not easy to take her away form this paradise!
A curiosity: free camping is allowed in Cyprus. A word to the wise…
Along the road we make other meetings.
Cyprus is famous for the donkeys living in the wild. And they try to enter the car, too!
The beaches follow one another. What a sight in summer!
Donkeys and photos alternate along the road.
New very long beaches in front of us.
One more beautiful than the other.
In this place of veneration there’s also a local street market that we can’t miss, of course.
We leave again. Our destination is the furthermost north point.
The last part of the road is a dirt road and the views really deserve.
Quick stop to take some photos and we go down south again to find a place where to have lunch. We ask for information in this fishing village and we are referred beyond the village.
This is the sight by our table!
Do you want to know what we have eaten?
Take a look here!
Famagusta is another old town with the bastions still perfectly clear.
Destroyed and reconverted churches.
Only destroyed churches.
Very long bastions built by Venetians.
Going down south you can reach the border.
It’s a surreal atmosphere as you can see by this stolen release, but in a few moments you cross and go back to Cyprus.
Going along the road on the border you feel like it is a war zone. The situation has been freezing for 40 years and problems and deep disagreements are still very keen than ever between the different populations.
We go back to Larnaca. We stuffed ourselves again with fish and…a nice tour on the beach, of course!
Valeria, but are you there by this morning?
30th November 2014
It’s the last day. The plane will leave in a little while but awakening early in the morning you still can look at something.
Our accommodation here worth just 10 Euros each paid to sleep, but the view of the sea is definitely the top!
A tour very early on Sunday morning.
The town is very different from the chaos of the Saturday night on our arrival.
The venues prepare to live the Sunday and…do you know what are these? Here the beer is served like that!
Of course Valeria takes us again to the beach! Enough!!!
We still have a thing to see near here!
Right! The flamingos! Just outside the town there’s a great salt lake where you can admire the flamingos definitely all the year!
But don’t do like us! Go there very early! So you can see them close to. Little by little the road is crowding they go away!
Here, too, Valeria manage to put her foot to soak, of course.
But she has a very good reason: she has to take the photos close to!!!
We still have the time for a few quick steps just into the salt lake.
It’s a very beautiful feeling, even if the shoes are covered with sand completely!
The time is coming and the plane doesn’t wait!
Valeria! Is it comfortable your seat to wait in the airport?
On strip and we leave again.
A last look to the salt lake, even if by here you can’t photograph the flamingos (but you can see them by far) and we come back home!
Only a certainty: Cyprus was a discovery and a revelation. We’ll come back certainly!!!
This is our “little” tour route! See you on the next #ontheroad!
