Useful tips to visit Orlando Amusement Parks
Florida is very famous for the amusement parks in Orlando that I had the chance to visit during my long on the road.
Useful tips to visit Orlando Amusement Parks
It’s useless to say they were the days I enjoyed myself most. My parents had planned to stay there one day or two. I make them stay there one week!
Besides the unique emotion to spend a few days inside the parks, I would give to you also a few useful tips to visit the amusement parks in Orlando: they can be precious when you plan the journey.
Orlando is not only Disney
Disney amusement parks are perfect if you have very little children: they make enter magic by eyes, music and settings. But they are not the ideal if you have teenagers: maybe they prefer the adrenaline, like me. For this reason the Universal Studios are better.
Not only parks
You have to know whole Orlando city seems a huge outdoor playground or an amusement park.
There are really lots of water parks with many water chutes and swimming pools. Restaurants with wonderful settings, coloured and thousand lights funfairs, even a few shops have some entrances that seem amusement parks. Psychedelic lights everywhere, high volume music and a barrage of ads. I must admit whole this stuns a bit, at least at the arrival, but the opportunities of amusement are really many.
Tickets are the parks’ sore point, of course: they are very expensive. There are a lot of formulas for the purchase and it’s really difficult to understand something. People who live in Florida have really ridiculous prices for the admittance. On the contrary, it’s a jungle for foreign visitors.
It exists lots of trustworthy American websites where you can buy the tickets online at very discounted prices. They are really many and the savings are remarkably if you are able to get organised in time.
But you have to consider the tickets are sent to a physical address in the USA. They are often not handed to the hotel and if they are, keep in mind the hotels impose crazy amounts for collecting the parcel and the delivery to the room (it’s the same thing also for possible purchases you will do at the parks).
All the hotels sell the parks’ tickets with different formulas. Then it exists some kiosk scattered in Orlando city selling tickets. If you arrive in Orlando without tickets, they are certainly the best solution.
Go around several of them, all make formulas and prices really different and negotiate the price. Some of them will fall quite a lot compared to the initial requests for not miss you, so you’ll save a lot of money.
The most expensive solution is the one purchasing the tickets the same day at the parks’ ticket office.
To plan the journey
From Italy there are really a lot of flights arriving in Miami at absolutely affordable prices with very fine offers, above all during some period of the year. From Miami the best solution is to hire a car and then move free. If you want a few tips about how to save on the highways, read the post about Keys, too.
To help yourselves plan the journey in a simple way, you can use the website Destinia, which offers different solutions (flight, flight and hotel, car hiring…) in a practical and immediate way.
According to me, it doesn’t worth to sleep inside the parks. The only real advantage is the fact you can enter the park an hour or half an hour before the other people so you can choose the most crowded attractions (above all if you are in the “wrong” period) with less people.
Our period was right so the advantage was ridiculous. The hotel prices inside are really expensive and don’t expect exceptional services or hotels. As well as the food inside the park: it is a very poor quality food as regards prices, quality and choice.
I advice to sleep in the hotels or motels around the parks, to find out some interesting offer and to use shuttles and taxis. Keep in mind having many days in a row at the parks is absolutely impossible. After two days from the opening to the closing you will be dead and you’ll need a day of rest.
Parks’ car parking are very expensive. Every hotel usually has the free shuttle at regular times for the parks. Certainly the best solution. If you don’t like the times, keep in mind taxis are cheaper than Italy.
Our hotel was about 6 km far from the parks and the taxi cost 6/7 $. By the way, when you go out very tired from the parks, taxis are just near there waiting for you.
Universal Studios and Island Adventure
Besides Disney parks, in Orlando we find the Universal Studios and the Island Adventure: you can buy the tickets together. The parks are linked each other by the Harry Potter’s train. Not to be missed!
According to me the attractions of Orlando Parks are not really many if compared to Gardaland, for example.
But they are all cared in details, even the waiting, which can be very long. You have to know in the most famous attractions as Harry Potter, the queue in the peak season can reach also 5/6 hours, so by videos, settled rooms, characters…they try to relieve time.
The right period to visit Orlando parks
I don’t know how people can wait 6 hours for few minutes of attractions. But this is. Our waiting lasted 20-25 minutes maximum and we did some laps with 10 minutes waiting. How we did? Easy. It’s very important the choice of the right period to visit the amusement parks in Orlando.
Of course, I cannot say the calendar and the trend all over the year. But you have to know the period between Christmas and the New Year’s Day – the one we chose – can be the best or the most devastating.
Yeah, you got it well. 23rd – 24th – 25th and 26th December were perfect days. Really few people, above all on Christmas Day: in spite of what people think it’s a very recommended day to visit parks with less people. Of course, when I say “less people” you don’t think about the park as a desert!
On the contrary, the days from 27th December until the Epiphany are absolutely terrible and the most crowded. Really more expensive and crammed hotels, and endless queues at the parks.
App of the amusement parks
Inside the parks the free and very quick Wi-Fi allows to relieve time a bit during the queues.
Downloading the app of the park where you are you will always know the times and the position of all shows and above all the waiting times of the different attractions live. Very useful!
Do you want to know how it was our visit to the amusement parks? Here it is the video!
The Transformers was an attraction I liked a lot: you got on a car wearing 3D glasses, then a Transformers attack was simulated by videos and real settings. If you didn’t put off the 3D glasses you weren’t able to identify the real part and the filmed sequences. Really impressive!
To me it was beautiful also the Roller Coaster which was very long compared to the ones here. You think in the seat you could even select the music to listen during the lap!
I did it at least thirty times only in a day: it was really adrenaline!
Another one I liked a lot was an attraction which was at the same time stagy and rich in adrenaline. It simulated an Egypt setting with really many mummies moving. Inside there were downright controlled fires exploding at our transit, all with many accelerations and slowdowns. Really impressive!
Then there was Hulk Roller Coaster at 100km/h, many merry-go-round with water where you bathed enormously: we did it, of course, even if it wasn’t the right day due to the weather.
I must tell I didn’t like a lot the shows. They were very stagy but the artists weren’t so good as the ones in Gardaland, for example!
I hope these tips are useful to you to visit the amusement parks in Orlando, which I heartily recommend.
There’s nothing left to do than wish to you really a lot of fun in Florida!
