If you are in Boston or if you are travelling to Massachusetts don’t miss a leg in Lowell.
What to do in Lowell?
The city is about 50 km to the north-west of Boston and things to do in Lowell are really many for the lovers of history, for example: right this center was the fulcrum of the American Industrial revolution with its looms and its factories, still today available for tours.
But I want to take you to a very particular place which has literally bewitched me.
I’d never thought to fall in love with a place that has its fulcrum in the art.
Yeah, you got it right. I’m not crazy!
You think I’m trying to organize so that Leonardo can see this wonderful place, too…whether I’ll manage to solve the usual logistic difficulties due to the fact we are both under age and we cannot do a check-in in the hotel.
The first Saturday of every month, not to miss!
From Boston, where we are now for the whole Summer, is really a flash. On the first Saturday of every month this place “explodes” in all its wonder! So if you are wondering what to do in Lowell, here you find the answer!
But let’s begin with things in order.
I’m talking about Western Avenue Studios, a charming place which catapults in another reality: certainly this is one of the most beautiful things to answer to the question “what to do in Lowell?”.
In #Lowell the @WesternAveArts is a charming place to visit where art is special. @visitMA Click To TweetIt’s the home of more than all sorts of 300 artists expressing through every type of art shape.
Artists and creativity in a unique location
This red bricks historic building, an old mills and looms complex (like many others in Lowell) was turned to become an integral part of the Lowell life and so the near Boston.
You think today Lowell hosts here the greatest artists community of the whole east coast of the United States.
As you know, our blog had already hosted the report of a similar place in Denver: RiNo.
This place is similar thanks to the fact they have as underlying theme the art. And unlike for many other aspects.
Don’t do like me: when I heard mention about an artists place I immediately thought about the classic common places of alternative and a bit crazy people…maybe here they are a bit like that but whether you are like me, in love with the manual activities, or whether you are definitely not interested in them, the beautiful thing of visiting the Western Avenue Studios is right that every taste and personal inclinations here find their expressivity.
If you are wondering what to do in Lowell, this is a place not to be missed!
It’s useless to tell you about what art shapes and expressions I fall in love with, isn’t it?
Technology becomes art and expressivity
Seeing how electronic cards and technological “waste” can come to life in these creations was really wonderful.
Here it’s possible to admire the artists at work directly in their work spaces, in their labs and during the most creative operations.
Artists at work and creativity breathing @WesternAveArts. A tour not to be missed! #Lowell #Boston @visitMA Click To TweetAn extraordinary community of people and artists with a particular mind and a common view cast towards a common denominator like art. But with many branches feeding and making the place grow where they are: tourism, wellness, creativity, associationism, opening towards the others…
You enter, admire, chat with them, ask questions and everyone has incredible and curious stories to tell.
But do you know what is the thing that most bewitched me?
Go into the art galleries and the labs
That all these original galleries as well the most incredible artists performances are here available to everyone to be enjoyed by the most possible number of people that every first Saturday of the month come here to this building making it alive like never before!
Then every artist realizes school and grades to learn his/her art personally.
Many classes and labs to learn the different #art shapes @WesternAveArts #Boston #Lowell @visitMA Click To TweetSo here we find all sorts, duration, deepening of labs …some dedicated to beginners, other ones to the most expert, some individuals, other ones dedicated to children of any age group.
Charming and wonderful.
Glass bewitched me
If you have visited Murano, you know how can be nice to stay hour after hour admiring craftsman working glass.
Well, here it’s possible to do it close: it’s possible to do it in a small lab, only the artist and you, and it’s possible to attend his class or his individual lessons.
During the several occasions that happened to me until now I tried all sorts of labs: from cuisine to origami, from paintings to fabrics. But glass and its working literally bewitched me.
What did I do? Very easy.
I took the business card of an artists working glass, Aaron Slater, and now that I’m here in Boston to spend my wonderful Summer I called him to take part into one of his labs. Things to do in Lowell are really many!
Will I able to create these wonderful spheres after a lesson? It will be difficult but I’ll do my best and we’ll see what we’ll be able to make with Leonardo and I! We have no doubt about what to do in Lowell!
Useful information
On the website people write one tour here won’t be enough.
I can confirm it. I can’t wait to be able to come back.
Trust me: in this place there will be certainly an artist who will be able to “talk” directly to you and your way of being and think!
The main appointment is every first Saturday of the month from 12:00 to 5pm.
